Calarco Earns Ph.D from UAlbany Sociology Department

 

Assistant Professor Paul Calarco was recently granted his doctoral degree by the University at Albany’s Department of Sociology. His dissertation, “Flowers in the Trenches: The Experiences of Women in the Landscaping Profession,” was published in 2012. It and examined the role of women in one of the fastest-growing service industries in the country. An abstract can be found here.

Calarco has been a faculty member at Hudson Valley Community College for five years and currently teaches “Introduction to Sociology,” “Social Problems” and “Cultural Diversity in American Society.”

He began his graduate work at the University at Albany in 1998 and earned a master’s degree in Women’s Studies in 2002.  Paul was the first male master’s degree recipient in the Women’s Studies program at UAlbany.
